Today’s children come with a lighter, porous energy field that allows them to experience the etheric as part of their ordinary day-today life. However, this perceptual gift also augments the range of sensory input they receive. Their heightened sensitivity is undermined when they are impacted by the lower, negative vibrations of anger, violent television programs and videos.

From Wisdom’s Child…

The brain chemistry of the newly arrived child holds within its structure, new encodements which bless humankind with perceptual traits beyond the ordinary range of sensory awareness. Exposure to violence injures the delicate brain wave pattern that carries the template that engages higher thought.

When children’s highly absorbent energy fields are continually overwhelmed, we rob them of their preferred ways of understanding and relating to the world. Children need to feel deeply connected to the sacred within All Life, for they intuitively know the beauty beyond physical reality.

There are many simple, effective ways parents can create a sacred space in which their children can flourish and develop their gifts. Children are very receptive to visualization –they create mental images easily which can be used to enhance their learning and inner peace. The following visualization exercise is a very effective way to teach children how to strengthen their energy fields. It shows them a way not be victimized by the negative messages that come at them from so many directions in today’s world.

A Visualization Exercise for Children

There is an exercise that can help children feel more peaceful and centered called ‘Bubble of Light.’ I adapted it from a book of guided imagery activities called, Out of This World by Judith Valerie. I have used it in private practice, inner city arts programs, and within public school classrooms. I do it as part of my stress reduction program for children. It is a beautiful relaxation activity that helps children and young people create a safe place around them using their ability to visualize.

First, I play soft, meditative music and we do our deep breathing and stretching exercises. Then I tell them to either close their eyes or use ‘soft eyes’ if they prefer to have them open. The lights are dimmed and a peaceful feeling enters the room, as I say…

“Breathe deeply and imagine that you are standing in the middle of a beautiful bubble of light. Imagine yourself taking a magic wand, and, as you wave it, your favorite color or colors begin to flow through your wand and into your bubble. Reach above your head, and then turn to each side letting your wand fill the circle with beautiful colors. Hold your magic wand and swirl the colors below your feet.

Take all the time you need. As you create your bubble of light, you begin to feel very peaceful, safe, and protected. As you stand inside your bubble of light, know that if any harsh or mean words come toward you they will bounce right off your bubble of light. You are calm and protected within this beautiful, colorful circle of light. Angry, mean words cannot enter your bubble.

You can imagine yourself inside this bubble of light any time you want to feel peaceful and happy. You can even imagine a special person, animal, or object within your circle of light. Take all the time you need to create your bubble of light and, when you are ready, gently open your eyes and feel your feet on the floor. Breathe deeply, feeling calm, refreshed and fully present in the room.”

When the children finish the guided imagery, I have them draw their bubble of light while the soft music continues to play. Most children place themselves inside their bubble and may draw their parents, a friend, pet, or favorite animal with them. The room is filled with love as they quietly draw. Their drawings are deeply poignant and full of joy and hope.
